To enhance the lives
of foster and at risk youth through modern technology by building a sense of
academic and life achievement through awareness, advocacy, community-based
support services and computer technology. Working Dreams commits to preparing foster and at
risk youth for a productive adulthood through technology and life skills
Our Purpose: Working Dreams aims to provide laptops and computers to disenfranchised their communities and youth to ultimately improve their access to modern education.
For over 20 years, Lola and the Working Dreams Team have endeavored to make the world a kinder place for youth living in Foster Care. We have made it our mission from year to year to ensure that Foster Children know that someone cares.
Throughout the years, we have gathered new toys, books, CD's, clothing, basketballs and gift cards for children in the Los Angeles County Foster Care system. Thanks to our generous donors, the Holiday Gift Giveaway and Holiday Party grows larger and larger each year, allowing Working Dreams to service more and more Foster Children. The Working Dreams Gift Giveaway and Holiday Party is the largest gift giveaway for Foster Youth on the West Coast.
In 2015, on day of the event, we gifted approximately 1000 Foster children. We partnered with the Culver City Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Youth Foundation to increase our reach to Foster Children and ultimately helped over 15, 000 Foster Children have a Happy Holiday!
We have steadily increased the reach of our Holiday Toy Event and in 2017, we reached over 17,500 children with the Culver City Police and DCFS, The Department of Children and Family Services.
Working Dreams, since 2014, has held a Prom Basket Giveaway. Foster Care High School Junior and Senior Girls are treated to a day of choosing their prom gowns, evening purses and make-up pallets. Beautiful new prom gowns, both long and short, are donated by a leading manufacturer. Professional Make-up artists from Beyond Beauty, a non-profit organization who mentor Foster Care children, spend the day and offer tips and advise for prom make-up and hair. The girls also receive hair care products and Payless Gift Cards. We host between 300 and 400 girls at the Prom Dress Event.
Through the Working Dreams Initiative Program, computers will be donated to a variety of non-profit agencies throughout the United States, including middle and high schools, community-based center’s, after care programs, emancipation programs, churches and agencies that offer educational, social and community support services.
Working Dreams Initiative Program seeks to ensure that foster and at risk youth in California and throughout the United States have access to Internet and obtain the skills to use the Internet effectively. In addition to accessing and being exposed to computer technology and to have their own computers. The computers have been reconfigured and are capable of accessing the Internet and running basic educational software. The Working Dreams Initiative Program will form public/private partnerships to help level the playing field for children and adults who do not have access to technology and computers.
